How does it work?

The BioSustainable technology stimulates bacteria to colonize the surface of the plastic. As a result, they biodegrade and consume the plastic. It does not contain chemicals or colorants, and it does not generate microplastics.

How fast is the biodegradation?

In general, plastics with BioSustainable Plastics biodegrade at a monthly rate of 3% to 5% under ASTM D5338 conditions.

An independent study conducted by the Eden Research Laboratory in the U.S. demonstrated that, on average, over 680 days, according to ASTM D5338:

  • PS biodegrades at 3.5% per month.
  • LDPE biodegrades at 3.3% per month.
  • PET biodegrades at 4.5% per month.
